Job Description

Primary Responsibilities: The Manager, Corporate Accounting is responsible for overseing the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information, financial statements, general and standard journal entries and assist in budget development for management. Fluency with financial statements and consolidation, account analysis and reconciliations, cash flow analysis, cash management, budgets and forecasting, audit preparation, and internal control maintenance and regulatory reporting is a must.

Skills & Competencies:

  • BA or BS required; Accounting or Finance degree preferred 

  • 7-10 years of overall general accounting experience, corporate accounting experience preferred 

  • Experience with MRI preferred 

  • Experience with financial controls and auditing processes 

  • Knowledge of fair housing and local real estate laws, where applicable.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; advanced preferred

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to produce high-quality work in a deadline-oriented environment and an ability to multi-task

  • Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the “why”

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Process improvement and project management minded

  • Experience working in a work schedule environment, including in-office operation, weekends, and holidays, based on business need

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversees the day to day accounting functions of treasury, accounts receivable and platform level accounting

  • Review financial information such as trends, performance metrics, benchmarks, etc., and present analysis

  • Oversee preparation of monthly corporate financials and present corporate performance metrics to VP, Corporate Accounting.

  • Review journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations

  • Review the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents

  • Preparation of monthly management financials and the accompanying schedules and narratives, including budget vs. actual variance reports and subsequent explanation of significant variances

  • Oversee resident management transactions and all required cash transfers

  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for treasury & AR functions including standardized wire processing, cash management, stop payments, and new account requests.

  • Identify process improvement opportunities on an ongoing basis

  • Lead and participate in departmental projects and processes

  • Other duties, as assigned by leadership team.

Key Metrics & Responsibilities

  • Uphold company standards when working with business partners to ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls; while also providing support on special requests when required.

  • Execute monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, reports) in compliance with GAAP

  • Aid in coordinating quarterly reviews and testing with internal and external auditors

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of working extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

  • Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities, including the exchange and receipt of information over the telephone.

  • Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.

  • Position may involve sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must also be able to climb several flights of stairs if necessary.

  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail-oriented, and with good reasoning skills.

  • Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard.

Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.

  • Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment that may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.

  • Must be able to work in the office as regularly scheduled.
